Understanding floral and botanical ingredients

Edible flowers:

Edible flowers are not only visually stunning but they also can also add delicate flavours to your cocktails. Some popular options include:

Lavender: A soothing, aromatic touch with hints of sweetness and herbaceous notes.
Rose: Highly known for its subtle sweetness and romantic aroma.
Elderflower: A lovely light floral flavour with delicious fruity undertones.

Botanical spirits:

Botanical spirits, particularly gin and botanical-infused vodkas are distilled with a variety of herbs, fruits and spices. These spirits bring complexity and
depth to cocktails that are often highlighted by the following botanicals:

Juniper: The dominant flavour in Gin with its fresh piney notes.
Citrus peel: Citrus adds lovely brightness and real freshness.
Herbs: Such as rosemary, basil and thyme give earthy savoury notes.

Edible flowers and botanicals

In addition to lavender and rose that our above cocktails both use, there are other edible flowers such as hibiscus, chamomile and violet.

These can be used fresh, dried or in syrups and garnishes. Botanical spirits also provide endless possibilities when it comes to cocktails, from herbaceous gins to floral liqueurs, allowing you to craft cocktails that are as beautifully as they are delicious.
