New Zealand International Wine Show

What is the New Zealand International Wine Show?

The New Zealand International Wine Show is one of New Zealand's largest wine competition. Held annually, with over 2000 wines from around the world are put to the ultimate test and are judged by a panel of leading judges, Masters of Wine and winemakers. Wines are then awarded by a Trophy, Gold Medal, Silver Medal or Bronze Medal.

How are the wines marked?

At the New Zealand International Wine Show there is strict criteria for the judges to follow. To be awarded a New Zealand International Wine Show (also known as NZIWS) Gold Medal, a wine has to be judged at least twice. To be awarded an NZIW Double Gold Medal, a wine is required to receive unanimous gold medal scores from the Chief Judge, three assistant Chief Judges and the three-person Senior judging team.

Who judges the wines from NZIWS?

The New Zealand competition has a very experienced judging team, however these judges may change year from year. The 2024 NZIWS was presided under the Chairmanship of Bob Campbell MW, New Zealand's most experienced senior wine judge and a leading wine educator. The senior judging team also included a number of leading winemakers, Masters of Wine and many key industry personnel. Most of these senior judges have each been involved in major wine competitions for more than two decades and bring a wide range of expertise and skill to the awards.
